How online singing classes work?
1. Listen and demonstrate
Deepayan introduces the exercise, phrase or composition and explains what to listen for.
2. Sing and observe
You repeat it while he evaluates pitch, rhythm, breathing, pronunciation and tonal quality.
3. Correct and repeat
The exercise is adjusted until you understand both what to do and how correct production should feel.
4. Practise independently
You receive a clear riyaaz assignment, reference material and priorities for the following week.
Because video calls have a small audio delay, teacher and student do not normally sing simultaneously. Deepayan demonstrates first, then listens and corrects. Students receive guidance for configuring their audio so that musical sound is transmitted clearly.

Frequently asked questions
Can beginners learn online?
Yes, more than half of my students have never received formal lessons before and are not confident about their voice. But they have a strong passion that makes them just schedule an introductory class, where they tell me about their needs and we come up with a plan accordingly.
Do I need a tanpura or a music instrument?
I will introduce you to some freely available online resources and apps that will help accompany your practice. An electronic keyboard or a harmonium help, but are not entirely necessary unless you really want to invest in your long term progress.
How much do I need to practice if I am a beginner?
I generally recommend beginners to schedule one class per week, followed by at least 3 days of practice in their own free time. If you practice only during the scheduled sessions, the progress will still be visible. Ideally, practicing everyday even if it is only for 5 minutes can create a huge difference. I will also share exercises and recommendations about how to do 'riyaz'.
Can adults begin later in life?
Certainly. I have worked with students over 30 years old who never had music lessons before. Average age of my students is 29 years old, while the oldest active student is 57 years old. Age indeed doesn't matter. Passion, commitment, and willingness to invest time and effort is required.
Are lessons available for Indians living abroad?
Certainly. I have active students from USA, UK, Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, and Australia (NRIs); we can discuss timings that work well for both of us and will be flexible throught our engagement together.
